Happy St. Luke’s Weekend
The feast of our patron, St. Luke, on October 18, marks another year in our calendar.
196 years ago, the first Mass was celebrated in Westborough, and the seed of the Catholic community was planted in Westborough. Then, in 1870, the
Parish community was officially established.

It’s been 156 years of being a Catholic community serving the Lord and his people. I can’t be more grateful for all the priests, deacons, religious sisters, and lay people, men and women, who have served Jesus in this community; for the many lives that have been touched and changed by the power of the Holy Spirit; for all the people who have found God in their lives through the celebration of sacraments, the religious education classes, the retreats, the pilgrimages, and the celebrations.
The story continues, and it’s our responsibility to carry on the mission of the universal Church in this portion of the Body of Christ, proclaiming that Jesus is alive and that His Holy Spirit is still at work in this world.
New times bring new challenges that might be scary and new opportunities that are exciting.
One big challenge is to spread the seed of unity and reconciliation in these times of division. The Acts of the Apostles, written by St. Luke, reminds us how the apostles remained united in prayer along with our Blessed Mother before they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Therefore, praying together and for one another is a powerful way to work for unity and reconciliation.
Another important challenge is taking care of the building that is our home. The church roof lasted over 100 years and is now failing. More than 25 years ago, Fr. George Lange led a ma-jor project to renovate the interior of the Church. It’s time to give our church a little love with some overdue maintenance work.
On the other hand, one huge opportunity for us is the great diversity of our Parish community. More nationalities, languages, and cultural traditions are now part of the family of St. Luke, making us a more accurate reflection of the Universal Church, the Catholic Church. With a more diverse community, more talents and gifts are brought to the service of the gospel, and more ways to know Jesus and to make him known. What a great blessing!
This weekend, I would like to invite you to offer your gift of prayer for our Parish, for all the leaders and volunteers, for all the projects and activities we will work on, and for me, your pastor. Let’s intercede with love and devotion, especially for the work of evangelization, so we may be attentive to the voice of Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Signature Campaign to Repeal 188
This Weekend!
This year in Massachusetts, we face a grave threat to human life which requires our attention. On August 10, 2026, our governor signed a law (Chapter 188) removing all restrictions on abortion. If this law takes effect as scheduled in November, abortion will be legal through all nine months of pregnancy for any reason, even if the mother and baby have no medial issues.
The Catholic bishops from Massachusetts have joined concerns to gather a statement to be shared with the lay faithful of our dioceses. Please read the Bishops' Letter below.
A citizen-led referendum petition has been filed seeking to suspend Chapter 188 and allow voters to decide whether the law should remain in effect. 49,716 certified voter signatures are required to suspend the law while the referendum process proceeds. If reached by October 23, the law will be suspended, and the question will be added to the ballot in 2028.

This is a 2-part event which shares ways we can come to know the person of Jesus by imaginatively contemplating key gospel passages. Using techniques from Ignatian Spirituality, and listening to insightful reflections from the gospels, participants will draw closer to Jesus and experience his love through active involvement in prayer, music, discussion, and contemplation. This promises to be an informative and engaging time of spiritual enrichment and grace, and we hope you can attend. You may attend one or both sessions.
Coffee and light breakfast/pastries will be served.

We are continuing our “Pray It Forward – Adopt a Confirmation Student” program this year after its wonderful success last year!
At the end of Mass this weekend, please consider choosing the name of one of our Confirmation candidates. By doing so, you commit to praying for that student throughout their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

St. Luke’s serves dinner at the Mustard Seed on Fridays every other month. We need volunteers to provide a batch of chicken, riced pilaf, cooked vegetables, soft fruit, and finger desserts we will bring to Mustard Seed.
All food should be delivered hot to St. Luke's Parish Center parking lot between 3:30 and 4:00 on Friday, November 6th. (Look for Sean and his red CRV.)

OCIA Inquiry Sessions start Tue, Sept. 15, then continue weekly Tuesdays at 7:30 PM in Room 23, Parish Center. If you are not already a member of the Catholic faith community (or perhaps no Christian faith community), this is an excellent opportunity to learn about the Christian faith in the Catholic tradition.
All are welcome to attend without any obligation or pressure to “become Catholic.” For those who choose, OCIA can provide a path to one or more of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist.)

Here are a few simple ways you and your family can practice putting your love in action this month.
Little habits for little prayers
Building prayer into our daily lives as a family is a great way to live out your faith in the little moments of life. You might have the wonderful habit of bedtime and prayers before meals, is there another small habit you can build to add more prayer to your family's life?Habits seem to 'stick' better when they are anchored to something - like a meal, time of day, place, or event. Below are a few other examples of 'little reminders' we can use to stop and pray. Kids especially love ones that you have to 'be on the lookout for'. It connects the world around them with prayer.
Little reminders for short little prayers:
- When you hear an ambulance or sirens
- When you see your favorite animal or plant
- When driving by a church or hospital
- When you see a first responder, healthcare worker, or military personnel
- When you zip or unzip your backpack
